Aipa "DA Sting"
in 1974 Ben Aipa, the legendary Hawaiian surfer and shaper, made surfboard history with the development of 'Da Sting', a fast turning shape he first developed for Larry Bertleman.
"I watched him briefly at the Lighthouse and could see what he was up to.... I knew he was the future, so I went back to the store and imagined what kind of board dynamics he would need to pull off the maneuvers he was trying to do," Ben said at the time.
In 1976, after 2 years of refinement, the Sting was featured prominently on the cover of Surfer Magazine, under the arms of Ben and 2 skate-style enthusiast "Stingmen", Mark Liddell and Buttons Kaluhiokalani. Ben says, "That cover made the Sting go viral and set the Sting on fire and changed the face of performance surfing forever."
So how perfect that Carver collaborated with the Aipa family to develop a Carver surfskate model that performs the same fast turning and pumping maneuvers they developed for skateboards in 1996. The clear sugarcoat grip features the classic blue flames dreamed up by Mark Lidell and inspired by the flames of the '57 Chevy hot rods that became one of the most iconic airbrushed designs in surfboard history.
Like the surfboard that sparked such a huge turn in the "shortboard revolution," Carver kept the wheelbase tight so you get the same fast performance Ben Aipa intended.
Carver CX Trucks:
The CX Trucks are Carver's hybrid of a surf and skate truck. On the one hand they have a lightweight standard RKP (Reverse King Pin) hanger and base, on the other hand a patented geometry that gets every bit of turn and pump out of the system.
The patented design allows the CX to pump like a C7, but land airs and fakie with more stability in comparison. This not only enables airs but also adapts to the latest development of airs in surfing.
The CX also have more pump and a tighter turning radius than any other reverse kingpin truck on the market, but with no other parts. They have a similar feel to the C7, but are less extreme. So if you want a more familiar feel to your board, but still want to pump and surf, then the CX is the truck you want on a board like this.
The CX trucks are ideal for progressive airs, reverses and anyone who prefers a snappy turn.
Carver C7 Trucks:
The C7 truck is the signature truck that started it all at Carver. It is still the most responsive and fastest pumping surf truck of all time and is at the pinnacle of true surfskate performance.
The patented second axle of this front truck not only increases the turning radius of your carves, but also allows you to snap the nose and initiate turns from the tail. This dynamic generates thrust and propels you forward with increasing speed.
