Dancing Longboards
The fact that longboarding is not just a cool way to get around becomes clear at the latest when you get to grips with dancing. Dancing on a longboard?! Okay, not quite. Dancers don't perform ballroom dancing on their boards. Instead, they excel at complex cross-steps, spins, and other figures that, when executed fluidly and confidently, resemble a dance. Here you will find a nice selection of suitable dancing longboards.###
When the longboard becomes a dance floor
Dancing requires not only skill, but also creativity. And of course, your longboard should also have some very important characteristics so that you cut a good figure. By the way, dancing has its origin in boardwalking, a special way of surfing. Also surfers like to make fun of converting their board into a dance floor and inspire their audience with spectacular tricks.
It's clear that your longboard has to have a lot to offer in order to serve you as a perfect dance floor. First of all, there is the question of length. To perfectly execute the steps and moves, your longboard should be about 1.20 meters long. This definitely puts it above the average of conventional longboards and makes it stand out from the crowd.
In addition, a smaller concave bend is necessary to walk across the board without any problems. Some Dancer longboards are also completely straight. However, what you will find in every case is a nose and a tail - they prevent you from taking one step too many and falling off the longboard. It's an embarrassment I'm sure we'd all like to spare ourselves.
So the features of a Dancer longboard are:
- Length of around 1.20 meters
- Low concave (or completely without bend)
- Nose and tail
The riding style with unlimited possibilities
Learning to dance is not exactly easy and requires a lot of patience and sensitivity. But don't worry: You don't have to be John Travolta to cut a fine figure as a longboard dancer.
The most common tricks and techniques in longboard dancing are:
- Crossstepping
- Spins
- Pirouettes
- Jumps
- Wheelies
Dancing, however, offers enough room for your own ideas and are therefore perfect if you want to give free rein to your creativity. If you have ever watched a professional longboard dancer, you know that with this style (almost) anything is possible. Aesthetics and show are very important here and so it is the goal of every dancer to perfect his movements so that they appear as fluid and light-footed as possible.
Alittle tip on the side: Dancing with friends is the most fun. This way you can exchange ideas and evaluate each other's performance - and get better together.
One thing is for sure: Dancing has to be learned. You will probably find that out very quickly. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to practice the different steps and elements, because: Dancing is not only a lot of fun, but also inspires the masses. In order for you to become a prima ballerina on the longboard, it is important that you choose the right board. As large as possible and equipped with a low bend - that's the most important thing.
