For several years now, more and more snowboarders have been turning their backs on classic alpine boarding with gondola and piste and expanding the sport to include the fitness-boosting ascent under their own power and the option of enjoying completely individual descents at their leisure.

If you want to go on real off-piste tours in the high alpine area, you should definitely book a guided tour on site and by no means set off on your own. The tour providers usually provide the necessary avalanche equipment.

Many touring skiers simply use the secured trails in the ski resorts for the ascent or ascend at the edge of the secured slopes and descend again on the slopes. This is considerably less spectacular than touring in open terrain, but it is incomparable fitness training and the best possible preparation for "real" touring. In corona times, this variant of snowboarding protects you from lift queues and contagion.
