Longboarding is not just a sport - it's a real philosophy, a feeling that will change your whole life. Once you fall for the fascination of longboarding, it will never let you go. It always starts in the same, harmless way: with a single push off the ground.
This feeling of setting the longboard in motion and now darting through the area is so indescribable that you simply have to experience it yourself. But before you do, there are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind, so you don't rush headlong into the adventure - even if your feet are itching.
Find your style
Most importantly, you need to figure out what style of longboarding you want to do: There are different riding styles in longboarding and each one requires a specific longboard. While you can get from A to B with any model - how you behave and move on the track is not at all the same.
The ideal riding styles for beginners are carving and cruising. Here, the idea is to "roll" through the area in a relaxed manner. Large, soft wheels and flexible decks ensure a smooth ride and allow good control over the deck.
Other disciplines, such as downhill, freeride, slalom or dancing, should only be attempted once you have gained the necessary experience. Take your time and see where your development as a longboarder takes you.
This also means, for example, that just because you want to be fast at the beginning doesn't necessarily mean you'll become a downhiller. It could just as well be that the smooth movements of carving or the creativity of dancing will grab you. Who knows for sure?
