DESIGN EVOLUTION

The Symtail continues the legacy of the board family that started with the Pintail in 2004 and evolved into the Fattail in 2011. As dancing and freestyle increasingly blended with carving and pumping, the once minimalist tail of the original board iteratively became larger and more function-oriented with the Fattail and has now been given a fully symmetrical nasal counterpart with the Symtail in 2024.

The Symtail was developed in collaboration with Loaded ambassador Ari Chamasmany, who represents the versatility of the Fattail with his inimitable riding style of pumping, dancing and gliding.

FUNCTIONAL DESIGN

The outline shape of the Symtail is designed for a finely tuned and even flex. The mild concave supports the feet for fast carving, while the topmount camber platform offers responsive performance tailored to an active riding style. The twin-taper shape with generous wheel cutouts provides ample turning ability while maximizing clearance for loose trucks, deep turns and a wide range of wheel sizes without the need for risers. Soft, upturned nose and tail with added fiberglass reinforcement for stiffer response during freestyle tricks.

HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION

Snowboard-inspired construction combines a vertically laminated bamboo core sandwiched between triaxial fiberglass layers for light weight and durability with lively flex characteristics perfect for hard carving and pumping. A top layer of cork provides vibration dampening for a smoother ride.

SUPER SAP

Bio-based epoxy resin from Entropy Resins. Uses bio-based materials from industrial waste streams such as tree sap to replace the petroleum content and reduce the carbon footprint of the epoxy resin during manufacturing. Working closely with Entropy, all key performance characteristics of the resin have been improved. Better for the planet, even more fun.

GRAPHIC: EVOLVING NATURE

The Symtail graphic represents the latest iteration of an ongoing functional and artistic exploration initiated by the Pintail.

The original Pintail graphic was designed in 2004 by Jamie Engelman as a meditation on change and growth. It was redesigned and made more abstract by Jan Michael Bennett in 2007 when the pintail was changed from oak to bamboo.

The Fattail graphic (2011), designed by Nana Studio based on drawings by Daisuke Okamoto, built on these themes by referencing the past while daring to look forward.

With the Symtail, Nana Studio now curates original artworks by Okamoto and takes the narrative another step forward. The seed has blossomed into a magnificent tree that embodies the ultimate desires of life:
