Freeride longboards
While downhill is all about riding down the mountain as quickly as possible, freeriding allows you to really let loose on the same track. Freeriding is for creative longboarders. The rule here is: there's no such thing as can't. The more unusual your ride, the better. No wonder there are now even dedicated freeriding events that thrill the public. Here you can find our selection of freeride longboards. ###
Fun factor: freeriding
Whether standing or crouching, fast or slow, with slides or without - in principle, anything goes when freeriding. The only rule: don't do anything that puts you in danger. This riding style is often used by downhillers to gradually approach their limits and find out what level their skills are at.
Freeriding is a crowd puller
But even if you are not addicted to the thrill of speed, freeriding could still be something for you. One thing is certain: this style of riding brings with it an extra dose of adrenaline.
Because of this, freeriding has established itself as a popular discipline for longboard events. This can only benefit the riders, as they can show off their skills at such an event without having to worry about a car coming towards them on the track. What's more, the roads on which such events are held are always adequately equipped with hay bales - so at least serious crashes don't end up in the ditch.
The perfect freeriding board
Although freeride longboards are designed for speed in a similar way to downhill models, you will still find some differences here. Freeride decks are usually a little more flexy, which makes them easier to steer.
They are also usually shaped so that they don't have a clear front and back. This is important, as many freeriders like to make a 180° turn while riding and continue riding with their feet in the opposite position. Professionals refer to this as a "twin-tip deck".
In order to perform perfect slides (also an integral part of freeriding), most freeride boards also have a very low stance and are therefore dropped.
The characteristics of a freeride longboard:
- Slight flexibility (depending on preference)
- Twin-tip deck
- Low stance
- Cut-outs on the wheels to avoid wheelbites.
Versatility - the big advantage of freeride boards
The composition of a freeride longboard ensures that you can use it in a variety of ways. On the one hand, it can withstand high speeds, and on the other, you can use it to develop an individual riding style.
Incidentally, a nose or tail kick provides even more variance when riding. These little extras allow you to perform wheelies and shuvits.
If you are interested in freeriding, it is very important that you have sufficient previous experience. Unfortunately, courage alone is not enough to become a good freerider. In this context, you should definitely know your limits and always protect yourself well. Joint protectors and a helmet are mandatory when freeriding.
A combination of creativity and speed - for many longboarders, this is the perfection of their hobby. If you don't want to choose one or the other, you should give freeriding a try. However, make sure that you get a board that can cope with the difficult demands of this style and don't forget to protect yourself adequately - because even the best freeriders fall from time to time.
