As with any other sport, the same applies to longboarding: Safety first! While the risk of injury when cruising and carving is relatively low (but still not to be underestimated), you should attach importance to extensive protective measures, especially when downhill.###

No pro rides without protection

Comprehensive protection when longboarding includes not only protectors for knees and elbows, but also helmets and gloves.

The be-all and end-all of longboarding is to be able to assess yourself in terms of your ability. It's no use others telling you that you shouldn't try this trick or that run if you don't see it yourself. It's like any other sport: you have to know your limits so that you can push them, but not exceed them. Overestimating yourself can have serious consequences. Injuries are almost inevitable.

Always go slowly

With all the nonchalance and cool attitude of longboarding, you must never forget that the sport also brings dangers. It doesn't do you or anyone else any good if you try to prove yourself and end up in the hospital with a broken leg.

Especially for beginners: Take it slow and feel your way to the longboard. No master has ever fallen from the sky, so there's no shame in stumbling at the beginning. In order to guarantee you sufficient protection at all times, you can find various protectors for your head and hands in our store.

Protectors: the classics

Classic protective measures, which you may also know from skateboarding or inline skating, are helmets in addition to protectors for knees and elbows. Protection gloves for downhillers

Another important protective measure, which, however, is used exclusively on downhill rides, are special protection gloves. These are perfectly adapted to their field of application and do not let you down when you lay deep into the curves during rapid downhill and determine the direction with the help of your hands. Reinforcements on the palms and fingertips ensure that your skin is guaranteed not to tear. Without protective gloves, this extreme form of downhill would not be possible at all.

In addition to the complete gloves, there are also individual protective elements for fingers and palms that you can attach individually to your gloves. Leading brands for the so-called Slide Gloves are Triple Eight and Loaded.

At this point it should be emphasized once again: Please only ride downhill tracks with your longboard if you have the necessary skills and protect yourself from top to bottom. A fall at very high speeds can be life-threatening without adequate protectors.

A little style is allowed

You should pay special attention to your shoes. Skater shoes not only look super casual and cool, but they are also the perfect connection between you and your longboard (if you are not barefoot for the authentic beach feeling). In addition, most models are very flat and ensure that you can move ideally in them. Especially for the surf-like cruising movements this is of great importance. Of course, longboarding is a sport that is primarily about posing on the board. True to the motto "See and be seen", your outfit can be particularly casual and with a shirt from your favorite manufacturer you are guaranteed to always be dressed right.

When choosing your outfit, however, always keep in mind that you need to protect yourself sufficiently. A careless moment, a loose dog or the low sun can quickly cause you to lose your balance and fall, even when chilling out cruising or carving. A helmet is just as obligatory here as it is when dancing, trick riding and, of course, downhill.
