Longboard ball bearing
The right ball bearing is indispensable if you want your longboard to roll properly. Here too, as always, there are various options that affect the performance of your longboard. The choice of the right ball bearing wants to be well thought out. Here you can find our selection of longboard ball bearings.###
The basics: What you should know about longboard ball bearings
In general, the ball bearings that you may have already preferred for skateboarding can also be used for longboarding. However, you should pay attention to the following tips:
- If you want to equip your longboard with ball bearings, remember that each roller has two ball bearings. This makes a total of eight ball bearings per longboard - also a reason why most manufacturers offer their ball bearings usually always in a pack of eight.
- To avoid pressing two ball bearings together, there are special spacers (spacers), which you should also get.
- When choosing ball bearings, be sure to know what diameter your axle pins are. Most ball bearings are designed for axles with 8 mm diameter. This is the standard that you will most often come across. However, there are also models that fit 10 mm axles.
A good choice: ceramic ball bearings
If you are much in the downhill area, it is worth thinking about special ceramic ball bearings. These are somewhat more expensive, but much higher quality than conventional ball bearings.
The special feature of ceramic ball bearings is that they are extremely heat-resistant and therefore more resistant. In addition, these ball bearings can better deal with wetness - so just right for downhillers.
Stroke: the seat of the ball bearing
Have you decided on a ball bearing? Very good - now it remains to choose the stroke, i.e. the place where you mount the ball bearings. Your decision will have a big impact on the performance of your board and the wear of the wheels. Basically, there are three different hubs:
- Center-Set: The ball bearings are centered, so the wheels wear evenly.
- Side-Set: The ball bearings sit very far to the edge. This leads to the fact that the longboard can slide better. The disadvantage is that the rollers wear conically.
- Off-Set: This is a compromise between center and side set.
Without ball bearings, your wheels can't turn. No wonder they are of great importance for your longboard. It is important that you always have eight ball bearings together and check whether they fit on your axle pins - if that is the case, you only have to decide on the seat of the ball bearing (stroke) and you're ready to go.
