Longboards for beginners: It started with a single push
Longboarding is not just a sport - it's a real philosophy, a feeling that will change your whole life. Once you have fallen for the fascination of the longboard, it will never let you go. It always starts in the same, harmless way: with a single push off the ground.
The feeling of setting the longboard in motion and whizzing around is so indescribable that you simply have to experience it for yourself. But before you do, you should follow a few tips and tricks and not just rush headlong into the adventure - even if your feet are already itching.
Find your style
The most important thing is to be clear about what style you want to ride, because: There are different riding styles in longboarding and each one requires a specific longboard. Although you can get from A to B on any model, how you behave and move on the track is not at all the same.
The ideal riding styles for beginners are carving and cruising. The aim here is to "roll" through the area in a relaxed manner. Large, soft wheels and flexible decks ensure a smooth ride and allow good control of the deck.
However, you should only venture into other disciplines such as downhill, freeride, slalom or dancing once you have gained the necessary experience. Take your time and see where your development as a longboarder takes you.
This also means, for example, that just because you want to go fast at the beginning doesn't necessarily mean that you will become a downhiller. It could just as well be that the smooth movements of carving or the creativity of dancing will grab you. Who knows for sure?
